ARE STAFF INJURIES ...
The latest national injury stats for 2016/17 are out and I thought I'd go through some quick injury facts to understand what's happening to your people, and how to help.

Firstly, there were 106,260 serious claims* (staff off for one working week or more).

Median compensation was $11,500, (that's median, not average which would be a lot higher).

So what is the #1 Cause of Injuries?
Why Knee Injuries Cause 9% Of Injuries But Deserve More Than 3 Times that Number In Injury Prevention Respect

The latest Workcover stats show knees make up 9% of all serious injury claims. That number is significant, but it doesn't ring alarm bells. That is, until you dig deeper into how the knee plays out in your workplace.

The first thing to do is understand mechanics of the knee. And basically, it's a very mobile joint, especially for the load it carries over life. Sport, work, life can all contribute to wear and tear on the joint and particularly the cartilage and ligaments. The thing with knees is that as they get a knock or a twinge, the muscles around the area start to not fire. The big tear drop shaped muscle on the inside of the knee is actually listed in our text books as "The Quitter". Lazy as they come!
